Raw food and yoga
Anyone who takes up yoga generally does so because they want to do a bit more for their body and are hoping for a sense of well-being. The spiritual side (spirit and soul) often comes later. What you most want, then, is to do more for your body again, to be aware of it again, with all its important signals, and to be more attentive to it.
Raw food and yoga: the dialogue
Anyone who restarts the inner dialogue with their body becomes more aware of what is good for them and what is not so good. During a yoga session you learn how to adapt the movements to your own body and allow yourself to be guided by your breathing. You find your inner balance and improved performance. The calmness and satisfaction that you feel after yoga often stays with you for days afterwards.
For some people who practice yoga, one of the first things they do is to reduce the amount they smoke or even to give it up entirely. This is because when you are balanced, managing to do without a puff on cigarette is no problem whatsoever. And the same applies to alcohol ;-).
However, it is not just nicotine and alcohol but stress and, what very few people appreciate, a poor diet that make us nervous, irritable, sluggish and unbalanced.
The frequently quoted saying, “You are what you eat”, is certainly true here as well, because yoga and diet cannot be separated from one another. Your relationship to your body will change and you will notice it in how you eat as well.
Most people who practice yoga already have a vegetarian or even a vegan diet. From there the step to raw food or a raw food diet is not that big at all. To avoid turning into a “pudding vegetarian”, make sure that you have a varied diet which is easily digestible, is rich in vitamins and minerals and contains lots of green vegetables. The best things here are raw vegetables such as spinach, celery, broccoli, avocados, etc., ideally in the morning.
Make a healthy start to the day with lots of vitamins, e.g. with a green smoothie.
And this is how to make it:
For two portions of green smoothies you need:
1 large apple (sweet)
150g of fresh spinach (cleaned)
400 ml of water
2 – 3 dried figs in raw food quality
Wash the apple and remove the core. Wash the spinach thoroughly and remove the stalk, otherwise sand might damage your knife. Place in the Vitamix Mixer together with the water and the figs and mix for about 30 seconds until it turns into a creamy smoothie. Then pour into two tall glasses and enjoy it fresh – delicious.
